A Message From the ELCA President

Greeting Cottagers and Residents,

Hope all is well with everyone.  Just to begin, what an unusual winter it’s been.  I can’t recall in almost 30 years of being on the lake a season like this.  The TSW did put several logs in quite early to try to capture any available run off but the snowpack was quite low, and it may be a challenging year for water levels

As usual I’d like to thank our board members and volunteers for their continued dedication and commitment to the well-being of our lake and our community.

We have a few new ideas for social activities and will be unveiling them soon . . . stay tuned!

We are still pushing Highlands East to make improvements to the Public Landing but it is an uphill battle.   That brings us to the next important issue, the sanctuary status of the lake.  The Ministry of Natural Resources is not backing down on their decision to allow ice fishing for one month in 2025.  Our petition last year delayed the start date from 2024 to 2025 and we are pushing back but with their staff changing positions and training new staff it’s been several months since they have communicated with us.

The Homestead seems to be rebounding from the fire and hopefully their new buildings will be opening soon.

Just another gentle reminder about markers.  Please don’t tie up to them while fishing and, please, if you see one has moved notify me or another board member and we shall rectify the issue.

All events will be listed on our website and Facebook and depending on the effects of water levels, some may be moved forward by a couple of weeks (lake cleanup).

Don’t forget to visit our website for ELCA information, join the association and/or renew your membership, and purchase your Eels Lake Spirit Wear for the upcoming cottage season.

Hope to see everyone at the AGM, Sunday June 23, 2024, 11:00 a.m. Banquet Hall, North Kawartha Community Centre, 280 Burleigh Street, Apsley, Ontario (in consideration of our North Kawartha members).  The format will be announced in the near future.  We do hope to return to the Homestead in 2025 for our AGM.
